Hale Ke Alaula is intended to be a house and garden all mixed together. Downstairs the garden spills in under the house. Upstairs, the house opens out to the garden and the breeze.
The house upstairs is bamboo and like a tent. It is a big roof arching above a big room and two bedrooms. The exterior walls are almost entirely french doors which all open up to the breezes so there is no need for air conditioning.
