How to use the stove

We have an induction stovetop. It works really well. You can boil water about twice as fast as a regular stove and the surface elements don’t get hot. They get warm but thats from the heat of the pan going back down into the  glass.

It looks like a contemporary glass top electric stove except nothing in or under the glass gets hot. Instead it sends magnetism up into the metal pan you are cooking with and it gets hot. This means that your cooking pans must be ferromagnetic steel. And our pans are. (All except one which we brought over from the mainland thinking it would work. It is stainless steel, but not all stainless steel is ferro-magnetic. In fact most isn’t. So watch out for the one oddball pan. It looks like the others but a little frail-er.) You can use glass pans if you have a steel platform under it, which we will get but haven’t yet.

Nothing gets hot until you turn it on and put a ferro-magnetic metal pan on the glass.

So the controls are hard to see but they are there, under the glass. They are touch controls like on your iPhone.  The turn on button is left-ish, bottom-ish. You can barely see it…

Locate and hold your finger on the off/on button until that it glows red. Then slide your finger across the numbers to set the heat level.

Then select the burner you want  according to the graphic in the middle of the screen, er, stove….
And then your heat level by tapping number settings along the bottom and they light up too.   In this picture we are using the lower right burner and the heat level is set to 5.5
