door screens

Hale Ke Alaula was conceived as a tent, open to the Hawaiian breezes, so you may like to open all of the doors – all the way – and maybe leave them open the entire time you are here. You can. They all have stakes to bolt them firmly into the deck.

Puako does, however, also have a few flying insects. We used to have walk-through screens that opened and closed like curtains. They were good …but we decided to replaced them with real screen doors. It wasn’t so much the insects, but if the wind kicks up, which it does occasionally, real screen doors are much better at keeping out leaves and dirt.

If you don’t mind the occasional flying insect, and would like to be totally open, the screens “technically” can be removed – but you must be certain you know how to put them back on their tracks correctly when you are done.  If Debbie has to call the installers in, well, she can, but …try not to let that happen.  Be careful with them, stack them securely indoors, safe from the wind, they are fragile, and be sure you have any tools required.
